Five members of a terrorist network in Lebanon who were recruiting Beirut suicide bombers have been apprehended by the country’s security forces.

Lebanese Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi announced that security forces had “busted a terrorist gang plotting to carry out activities in three sites” in the area.

There were three main targets: the Madi neighborhood’s Al-Kazem Complex, the Lailaki Complex, and Ouzai’s Hussainiyat Al-Nasser, the minister stated.

Five people have been arrested and accused of preparing and supplying the weapons and explosives essential for the assaults.

Since the start of 2021, contacts were made between a source and a person in Daesh/ISIS in Syria called Assad Al-Chamy. “A specialist team from the Lebanese security forces started guiding the source, nicknamed ‘Abu Khutab,’ to communicate with Al-Chamy,” according to a press release.

The security team arrested the suspects, including Al-Chamy.
