Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati has said that he had agreed on a roadmap with President Michel Aoun to exit the country’s crisis, according to a tweet from the Lebanese presidency on Thursday.

Augmented by comments about the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen made by Lebanese Information Minister George Kordahi before his official appointment, Lebanon is facing its worst rift yet with oil-rich Gulf Arab states.

Kordahi, in an interview stat6ed to have been recorded on August 5, said Yemen was subjected to aggression and that its Iran-aligned Houthis were defending themselves.

Reactions by Saudi Arabia and some Gulf Arab states were highly assertive to the remarks made by the information minister in an interview last week, which he’d filmed before taking up his position in the cabinet. Consequently, Riyadh expelled Lebanon’s ambassador, banned all imports from Lebanon, and recalled its envoy for consultations.

While the United Arab Emirates withdrew all its diplomats from Beirut, Kuwait and Bahrain also followed suit by expelling the top envoys in their own capitals.
