Israel has launched an aerial attack with a number of missiles targeting an area on the outskirts of the Syrian capital of Damascus, television channels affiliated with the Assad regime said early on Wednesday.

The targeted area is known as Zakia.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said the targets were army positions and arms depots belonging to Iran-backed militias.

Channels affiliated with the Assad regime confirmed the raids and said they caused only material damage.

Israel had also fired missiles towards the suburbs of Damascus on Saturday.
