A new Iraqi government should be formed by the country’s political parties if they can unite, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi said on Sunday.

A statement from al-Kadhimi’s office reads, “I call on all political parties to work together to form a government that could function very soon and serve the Iraqi people.”

In addition, he said, “We must look for logical solutions that demonstrate political maturity and responsibility.”

The Iraqi Parliament was unable to elect a new president on Saturday due to a boycott by dozens of lawmakers.

It has been decided that the next presidential election will take place on March 30.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Al-Sadr Party, the KDP, and the Sunni Sovereignty Alliance announced that they had reached an agreement to nominate the KDP’s Reber Ahmed for president and the Al-Sadr Party’s Mohammad Jafar al-Sadr for prime minister.
