On February 3, Iraq Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein went to Tehran to meet with Iranian officials on several issues, based on the statement released by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry. It is reported that Iraqi FM will come together with his Iranian colleague Javad Zarif during his visit.

The detailed schedule about Fuad Hussein’s visit was not released. It also should be stated that this visit came after Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the UN to Iraq Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert’s two-day trip to Iran last weekend.

The Iraqi Minister’s visit is his second trip to Iran, since his appointment in September.

Also, there are reports claiming that Iraq is trying to reconciliate between the United States and Iran to reduce their tension, which accelerated after the assassination of the head of the Revolutionary Guard’s Quds Force, General Qasem Suleimani, by a drone airstrike last year.
