Iran’s Zarif arrives in Istanbul to meet his Turkish counterpart

According to diplomatic sources, Mevlüt Cavuşoğlu and Javad Zarif held a meeting at Dolmabahce Office in Istanbul.

On Friday, diplomatic sources stated that the Turkish Foreign Minister hosted his Iranian counterpart in Istanbul. The two have conducted a meeting at Dolmabahce Office. It is also stated that the head of Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization, Hakan Fidan, participated in the meeting, as well.

A day before, the Turkish Foreign Ministry issued a statement regarding Zarif’s visit. In this statement, it was reported that at the meeting, the two colleagues would address bilateral relations between their countries as well as current regional and international developments, including Syria, Afghanistan, and counter-terrorism.

The Iranian FM’s visit came after trilateral talks held between foreign ministers of Turkey, Russia, and Qatar in Doha. After this meeting, it had been announced that the Syrian issue would be addressed within the framework of a new mechanism which would be between Turkey and Russia. Qatar would also participate in negotiations as an honorary guest.
