Iranian, Russian foreign ministers discuss nuclear program

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian held a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov. The two top diplomats reportedly discussed the nuclear program.

According to the statement issued by the Russian foreign ministry, Amir-Abdollahian and Lavrov reviewed the consequences of Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi’s visit to Moscow. The two officials also exchanged views on boosting cooperation in all fields based on agreements that Raisi and Putin had come to terms with during the visit.

Amir-Abdollahian and Lavrov also discussed developments related to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program in the context of ongoing negotiations in Vienna to ensure the full implementation of the 2015 nuclear deal, the statement added.

In the statement, it was also expressed that both ministers emphasized that they were in favor of the quick reviving of the JCPOA, in accordance with the initial balanced structure approved by the United Nations.

Regional issues of mutual concern were also discussed during the talks between the Iranian and Russian foreign ministers.
