Ali-Asghar Khaji, Senior Assistant to the Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, announced to Russian media that Iran hopes it can acquire arms from Russia, following the lift of an arms embargo in line with the 2015 nuclear deal. The senior assistant underlined that Russia is a military partner of Iran, and that the acquisition of Russian arms can assist Iran in protecting its own territory and regional stability.
Earlier this week, Levon Dzhagaryan, Russia’s Ambassador to Iran, stated that Moscow had received a request from Iran for the acquisition of its defense items.
