The Head of Libyan Presidential Council Mohamed al-Menfi told many political parties that he would adopt the constitutional basis for holding elections.
Al-Menfi stated that he will take solution-oriented steps if the ongoing negotiations between the Tobruk-based House of Representatives (HoR) and the High Council of State (HCS) do not reach a conclusion.
In addition to this, the United Nations (UN) Special Advisor to Libya, Stephanie Williams, suggested forming a joint committee between the HoR and the HCS to agree on a constitutional basis for the elections, and that it should complete its work by 1 April, and start working under the auspices of the UN on March 15.
Williams’ initiatives were welcomed by the HCS but rejected by the Tobruk-based parliament led by Aguila Saleh.
