Sameh Shoukry, Egyptian Foreign Minister, met with his Libyan counterpart for the Government of National Accord (GNA) Mohamed Taher Siala in Cairo to express Egypt’s support for a political solution within Libya, and to work with the new interim government until the general election on 24 December.

A statement made by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry underlined that Cairo stands firm with its fundamental stance towards achieving a Libyan-Libyan solution to the conflict in the country, in order to protect the integrity and stability of its people, and their resources.

The meeting of the two foreign ministers came during the period when an emergency meeting between foreign ministers of the Arab League took place in Cairo. Furthermore, the talks also came days after a new interim government was elected by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, where Mohammad Younes Menfi was chosen as the new Head for the Presidential Council. This appointment was met with a positive response by the Egyptian government.
