The Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohammed Younes Menfi announced that a reconciliation commission will be set up for supporting social peace. Menfi pointed out that the commission will be responsible for the maintenance of a fair environment among Libyans. Additionally, it is expected to create solidarity in the country. Menfi made the announcement during a press conference in the capital, and was accompanied by the other members of the Presidential Council: Musa al-Koni and Abdullah al-Lafi.

No further details concerning the structure or activities of the commission were delivered.

Menfi came together with Libyan experts last Thursday, planning the structure of the national reconciliation commission.

Earlier, opposing political groups came together under the UN-backed process to lead the country to the elections planned to be held in December 2021. Abdulhamid Dbeibeh was chosen as the interim Prime Minister, and a new Presidential Council was formed.
