On 14 February, Hulusi Akar, Turkish Minister of Defense, declared that the bodies of 13 executed people were found during an operation against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), in northern Iraq. Initial information given by two captured PKK terrorists suggest that the people concerned were killed before the start of the operation itself.
Besides this, Akar announced that 48 PKK terrorists were killed during the operation, while three injuries and casualties were reported on the Turkish side. The aims of the operation were to secure the border city of Gara and find kidnapped citizens.
