Regime forces and its affiliated groups violated the ceasefire by shelling villages with surface-to-surface missiles. The UK-based war monitor, Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said shelling took place in the village of Ehsim late Sunday and the village of Sarja earlier that day.

Six civilians were killed in Sarja, including three children and a rescue worker. The shelling in Ehsim came hours after Bashar al-Assad took an oath of office following a highly criticized election.

More than 3 million people are living in the Idlib region, with many displaced more than once. Aid agencies claim that many rely on humanitarian aid to survive.
