An Iraqi official said on Wednesday that Iranian forces targeted areas near the northern Iraqi city of Erbil in artillery strikes.
Ihsan Chalabi, a senior official in the region’s Sidekan area, indicated that Iranian strikes hit rural areas north of Erbil near the Iraqi-Iranian border.
The official added that no loss of life has so far been reported.
Citing the presence of militants of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI), which it has designated as a terrorist organization, Iran sporadically shells the region.
