Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez discussed the issue of energy in a phone call.

In a written statement made by the Presidency of Algeria, it was noted that the two expressed their mutual wishes for the development of the current cooperation during the meeting.

The statement included Sanchez thanking President Tebboune for Algeria’s “reliable partnership in the energy field.”

On the other hand, it was stated that Sanchez conveyed his condolences to the Algerian President for the Algerian university student who lost his life in Ukraine.

Algeria is connected to the European continent by three pipelines to transport gas from the large Hassi R’Mel field in the south of the country and elsewhere.

The first line, which was put into service in 1984, connects Algeria to Italy (Sicily Island) via Tunisia and has an annual capacity of 30 billion cubic meters.

The second pipeline reaches from Beni Saf town in northwest Algeria to Almeria city in southern Spain.

The third line, which stopped at the beginning of November last year, is known as the Maghreb-Europe natural gas pipeline, passing through Morocco and the Mediterranean, connecting Algeria to Spain.
