The Red Cross is working with Palestine to get its nationals out of Ukraine amid Russia’s invasion of the European country, a Palestinian adviser said on Sunday.
The Palestinian Foreign Minister’s Adviser, Ahmed al-Deek, noted that the International Committee of the Red Cross has been contacted to provide safe passages for the evacuation of Palestinian students and families from Ukrainian cities.
Palestinians have been expelled from Ukraine since the conflict began, according to the adviser.
“There are still students and members of the Palestinian community being evacuated from Ukraine who are being taken care of by Palestinian embassies in Poland, Romania, Hungary, and Slovakia,” the adviser concluded.
More than 3,000 Palestinians, including 700 university students, are estimated to be living in Ukraine, according to Palestinian estimates.
In response to international outrage over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the EU, the UK, and the US have all imposed economic sanctions on Moscow.
331 civilians have been killed and 675 injured since the conflict began on February 24, according to UN estimates.
According to the UN refugee agency, more than 1.5 million Ukrainians have fled to neighboring countries.
