Ebrahim Raisi, the president of Iran, has arrived in Qatar for high-level meetings with Emir Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and to attend the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).
During his two-day visit, Raisi will be joined by numerous ministers and is scheduled to sign various agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.
“We view this visit as a step towards activating diplomacy with neighbors, especially Persian Gulf countries, and to use their capacities to develop political and economic ties,” Raisi said before departing Tehran for Doha early on Monday.
Four agreements will be inked between the two nations, according to Iran’s roads and transport minister, Rostam Ghasemi. The most crucial of these, according to Ghaemi, is an agreement on a proposal to connect Iran and Qatar by an underwater tunnel.
Two of the other agreements are related to shipping and increasing marine trade, while the fourth is about strengthening air travel between the two nations.
Raisi is also scheduled to represent Iran at the GECF session on Tuesday. Iran has the second-largest natural gas reserves in the world behind Russia.
