Following international pressure, Israeli authorities have been ordered to halt the forced removal of Palestinians from their homes in the occupied West Bank.

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said a UN delegation met with a Palestinian family who had been forced by Israeli authorities to leave their home in the Sheikh Jarrah district of East Jerusalem for 70 years

When asked about the potential eviction of Palestinians from their Sheikh Jarrah houses, Dujarric said: “We are actively following up on the situation there.”

“Maintaining a sense of self-control and tranquillity is essential to calming the situation down. We continue to call on Israeli authorities to stop evicting Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah and elsewhere in the West Bank from their homes.”

Moreover, a quarter of a million Palestinians live in East Jerusalem’s districts, including Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan, where the family facing displacement includes six children and an elderly lady.
