President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said in a statement to the Algerian media that the exact date of the Arab League Summit to be held in Algeria is not yet known and that this date will be determined at the Arab foreign ministers meeting to be held in Cairo in March, upon the proposal of his country.
Tebboune said that media reports suggesting the reason behind the postponement of the summit is the disagreements between Arab leaders are not true.
The Algerian president stated, “Algeria hopes that this summit will yield good results that will be instrumental in the recovery of the Arab countries and the revision of the principles of the Arab League.”
Tebboune also emphasized in his statements that his country did not accept any mediation offers with Morocco on the grounds of “anti-propaganda”.
Algeria had severed ties with Morocco a few months ago for allegedly continuing hostile propaganda.
The Arab League Summit could not be held in the previous two years, in 2020 and 2021, due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
