In a parliamentary session held on February 10 by the Tobruk-based House of Representatives (HoR), Fathi Bashagha, the former Minister of Interior, was elected as the prime minister for the transitional period.
Bashagha was among the rivals of current Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh in the December 24 presidential elections.
In addition to this, Bashagha announced in a statement before the elections that if he was elected prime minister, he would not run for the next elections.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Dbeibeh, has announced that according to the roadmap previously determined within the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF), he will be in office until June 2022 and will hand over his powers only to a popularly elected authority.
On the other hand, in the parliamentary session led by HoR Speaker Aguila Saleh, it was suggested that the draft constitution should be amended and a 24-member committee should be established, consisting of experts from the east, west and south of the country.
It is said that after the decisions taken by HoR in Libya, the country may be dragged into a political deadlock once again.
