Algeria expresses support for national reconciliation and Libyan-owned process

Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra stressed his country’s support for national unity and a Libyan-led consensus on contentious issues to his Libyan counterpart Najla Mangoush.

Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra and his Libyan counterpart Najla Mangoush met in Addis Ababa, prior to the start of the work of the 40th regular session of the Executive Council of the African Union.

During the meetings, parties discussed the latest developments including political track other contentious issues in Libya.

Speaking after the talks, Foreign Minister Najla Mangoush stated that she appreciated Algeria’s supportive approach towards the Libyan people and its efforts to make the interests of the Libyan people the primary target.

In addition, Mangoush emphasized the importance of coordination and multiple communication channels between the two countries.

The Libyan presidential election, planned to be held on December 24, was postponed.

On Monday in response to remarks made by the speaker of the eastern-based parliament, Aguila Saleh, Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh stated that the government will remain in office until the elections scheduled for June.
