The United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, and Egypt came together in the Emirati capital of Abu Dhabi on Wednesday to address the latest regional developments. UAE’s Vice President and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also attended the meeting.
On behalf of Bahrain, King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa attended the meeting in Abu Dhabi, while Egypt was represented by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
Issuing a statement regarding the meeting, Egypt’s presidential office stated that the talks focused on regional issues and “means to strengthen coordination and cooperation to promote the mechanisms of joint Arab action to confront the current challenges facing the region.”
Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, known his initials MbZ, welcomed the Bahraini King upon his arrival in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. Egyptian President el-Sisi arrived in the UAE’s capital on Wednesday.
During his visit to the UAE, Egypt’s President also held a bilateral meeting with the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince. In the meeting, “various aspects of bilateral relations had been discussed, and exchanged views on the latest issues of common interest in the region, particularly those in Libya and Yemen,” the Egyptian presidential statement noted.
Both sides reached a consensus on the necessity of political solutions to resolve the issues, according to the statement.
On his part, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince confirmed that his country’s stance towards those issues accords with the Egyptian policies towards resolving disputes in the region.
The trilateral meeting came following the repetitive attacks of Yemen’s Houthi group targeting the UAE. The UAE’s state-run news agency reported that the Crown Prince expressed his pleasure for the stances of both Egypt and Bahrain on the recent Houthi escalation targeting civilian sites and facilities in the UAE.
