On Friday, according to a military source, at least 11 Iraqi soldiers were killed in an attack by the Daesh\ISIS terrorist group in eastern Iraq.

Daesh\ISIS terrorists attacked a military base between the villages of Talaa and Um al-Karami in Diyala province, an Iraqi military officer expressed.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the officer added that the attack resulted in the death of 11 Iraqi army personnel, including an officer.

An operation against the assailants began according to the same source, saying that military reinforcement arrived on the scene.

No official statement by the Iraqi authorities has been made on the incident thus far.

Iraq declared victory over the Daesh/ISIS terror group in 2017 after reclaiming all territories the terrorist group controlled since the summer of 2014. The territory was estimated to be about a third of the country.

However, the group still maintains sleeper cells in large areas in Iraq and occasionally launches sporadic attacks.
