Iraqi authorities have repatriated 111 Iraqi families linked to the ISIS/Daesh terror group from northern Syria, a local official said on Monday.
They arrived on Saturday and were transferred to Al-Jadaa camp south of Mosul, in Nineveh province, the official added.
On Saturday, according to Iraqi authorities, 50 Iraqi members of the ISIS/Daesh terrorist group from Syria were handed over to Baghdad.
An Iraqi Defense Ministry statement expressed that the Iraqi suspects were arrested inside Syrian territories and were handed over to Iraq through the Rabi’a border crossing with Syria.
Mosul, Salahuddin and Anbar provinces and parts of Diyala and Kirkuk, which were recaptured from the group in late 2017 by the Iraqi forces with support from a US-led coalition, were captured by the ISIS/Daesh terrorist group in June 2014.
After the defeat of the terror group, thousands of ISIS/Daesh members fled to neighboring Syria.
The Iraqi army continues to carry out frequent operations against the group, which has mounted sporadic attacks in Iraq in recent months.
