Jan Kubis, the UN’s Special Envoy to Libya, had a discussion in the past two days with the President of the High Council of State Khaled al-Meshri, Deputy President of the Presidency Council Ahmed Maetig, and Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha.with regards to the roadmap for the upcoming general elections on 24 December. The UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) announced that Kubis also thanked the actors for their support and participation in the UN-supported Libyan Political Dialogue Forum.
The statement released by UNSMIL adds that Kubis asked for the actors’ insights on the next steps for the country, including developing the social, economic and security areas, with the intent of formulating a unified structure in the reconciliation of the Libyan state. Among the actors talked with, LNA leader Khalifa Haftar was also in Kubis’ schedule, with whom he discussed the security aspect of future plans and thanked for his support for the implementation of the ceasefire.
