The head of the EU mission to the West Bank and Gaza Strip urged Israel to stop the eviction of Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem from their homes to make room for Jewish settlers, in a plea to Israel on Monday.

Sven Kuhn von Burgsorff led a high-level EU delegation to pay a visit to the Salem family’s house, which faces eviction by Israeli authorities on December 28, during a visit to the Sheikh Jarrah area.

Von Burgsorff expressed: “Why would a family be forced out of their home during the midst of the winter?”

The EU delegation announced: “After Israeli settlers erected barbed wires around their property in an effort to take it, members of the Nassar family continued to congregate on their land in the neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah in occupied Jerusalem.”

During the Israeli occupation of East Jerusalem, The Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood has been targeted for evictions in order to introduce Jewish settlers. The Israeli Supreme Court is presently hearing an appeal against the evictions.
