On Monday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu stated that Turkey and Qatar’s sensitivity in delivering humanitarian aid to Afghan people should set an example to the international community.
In a joint news conference with his Qatari counterpart Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani in Doha, the Turkish foreign minister said that “the Afghan people need serious humanitarian aid. The international community needs to deliver this humanitarian aid to the Afghan people, regardless of political motives.”
“Qatar’s and Turkey’s sensitivity should set an example in this regard,” Cavusoglu added.
Underlining that he is working in coordination with institutions of both countries to deliver additional humanitarian aid, Cavusoglu said Turkey has allocated funds that were transferred for providing humanitarian aid.
On his part, saying Doha will continue to work towards enhancing humanitarian and economic efforts in the war-torn country, Qatar’s foreign minister reiterated his country’s position on addressing the situation in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, the Turkish foreign minister expressed that the Turkish Red Crescent and the Qatari Red Crescent are actively delivering aid to the Afghan people on the ground.
These efforts were also hailed, while also adding that they also discussed ways to keep the airports open in Afghanistan.
The joint press conference between the two foreign ministers comes in the midst of the seventh annual Qatar-Turkey Strategic Dialogue.
At least 12 MoUs across various fields including the military, health, tourism, and education sectors, among others, are expected to be signed during the two-day meeting that will be co-chaired by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
