In a statement by the Lebanese Presidency, Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani expressed that he will send Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani to Beirut to explore methods to assist the Lebanese capital.
On Monday, Lebanese President Michel Aoun met with Qatar’s Emir in Doha.
The statement aforementioned made no mention of a date for the foreign minister’s journey to Lebanon.
The statement also cites Qatar’s ruler saying the country is prepared to assist Lebanon in all spheres to overcome the terrible circumstances that have impacted Lebanese everyday life.
For his part, the Lebanese president lauded Qatar’s assistance for Lebanon as “exemplary” and applauded Qatar’s efforts to channel money into Lebanon’s economic initiatives.
The situation comes amid a diplomatic crisis between Lebanon and Qatar’s Gulf neighbors.
The crisis emerged after criticisms of the Saudi-led war intervention in Yemen by Lebanese Information Minister George Kordahi emerged. Consequently, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain withdrew their ambassadors from Lebanon.
Since late 2019, Lebanon has been coping with serious internal issues, which consists of a currency depreciation versus the dollar, as well as gasoline and medication shortages.
