On Thursday, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan ordered the release of four ministers detained by the military on October 25 following the coup attempt by the Sudanese military.
Ministers Hamza Baloul, Ali Jiddo, Hashim Hasabalrasoul, and Yousef Adam are to be set free, according to news released by state-run media.
The development came as UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres spoke with the army chief over the telephone, and reiterated his call for the release of all civilian detainees.
General al-Burhan had declared a state of emergency and dissolved the governing sovereign council shortly after detaining Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and several ministers from the civil portion of the transitional government, triggering mass protests.
The transitional government, composed of military and civilian officials, oversaw the democratic transition period until elections in 2023 as part of a power-sharing pact after the ouster of former ruler Omar Al-Bashir.
