Palestinian journalists have demanded protection against acts of violence by Israeli forces, calling on the international community to stop Israeli aggression.

The statement came during a workshop in Gaza on International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists organized by the Geneva-based Journalist Support Committee.

Palestinian journalists participating in the event emphasized that leaders of the occupying Israeli state should be held accountable for violence against Palestinian media workers and be referred to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The Journalist Support Committee’s coordinator in Palestine, Saleh Al-Masry, spoke at the workshop where he said Israel has committed more than 678 acts of violence against journalists since the beginning of 2021, including detention and removal from offices.

He further underlined that Israeli attacks on Gaza earlier in May left Palestinian journalists dead and demolished the offices of 59 media outlets.

Meanwhile, the program director of a local news channel also urged all international institutions to provide international protection to journalists. The same person further noted that Palestinian journalists are tirelessly working to fulfill their duties in spite of difficult conditions and losing their homes.
