In a statement made by Turkey’s foreign ministry, the decision of the Tobruk-based House of Representatives (HoR) to withdraw its vote of confidence from the government on September 21 was said to not contribute to the stability and reconciliation process of Libya.
In the statement, the importance of the continuity of the Government of National Unity (GNU) and the organization of the elections on the specified date was emphasized. In addition to this, it was expressed that “it is beneficial for all parties in Libya to put aside their conflicts of interest and focus on Libya’s priorities with a sense of responsibility.”
The statement further emphasized that Turkey’s support to the Libyan people will continue within the framework of the political process backed by the United Nations (UN).
On the same day, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with the Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Menfi, in New York, on the sidelines of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly.
The meeting, which was closed to the press, was held in the newly-constructed Türkevi Building. Turkey’s Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar, its Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Ersoy, and Libya’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Najla Mangoush attended the meeting.
