Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, Prime Minister of Iraq, announced that a senior ISIS leader was killed during a military operation near Baghdad, which was tasked to hunt down remnants of the group responsible for the suicide attempts in the capital two weeks prior. The statement, which was given in the late hours of 2 February, declared that the leader killed was Abu Hassan Al-Gharibawi, who was the head of ISIS’ operations in the south of the country.

The killing is the second among ISIS leaders within less than a week. Previously on 27 January, the leader of the Islamic State in Iraq, Abu Yasser Al Issawi, was killed by Iraqi security forces in the north of Kirkuk.
