Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz met in the occupied West Bank, in the very first high-level meeting between the two sides in 7 years and the first since Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett took office in June.
The Israeli minister traveled to the West Bank city of Ramallah for “security, civilian, and economic discussions” with the 85-year-old Palestinian leader, Israeli officials announced on Monday.
“Defense Minister Benny Gantz met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday evening to discuss security policy, civilian and economic issues,” Israel’s defense ministry announced in a statement.
