According to a statement by the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ramtane Lamamra had traveled to Tunisia with a delegation of other ministers under the direct orders of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

The statement indicated that the visit falls within the framework of “deepening the brotherly and neighborly relations between the two countries, as well as the year of consultation between the two countries on regional issues of common interest.”

This is Lamamra’s third visit to Tunisia in less than a month, as he conducted the first on July 27, and the second on August 2, during which he met President Kais Saied and his Tunisian counterpart Othman Jerandi and discussed the strengthening of bilateral cooperation and regional issues of common interest without providing further details.

These visits come in light of a political crisis that Tunisia has been witnessing for about a month, as the Tunisian president decided on July 25 to dismiss Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi, provided that he assumes the executive authority with the help of a government whose head is appointed.

President Saied also decided to freeze the powers of Parliament for a period of 30 days, which is set to end next Wednesday, to lift the immunity of deputies, and to be chaired by the Public Prosecution, and the right to dismiss dozens of officials.

Meanwhile, the Algerian Presidency said, on Monday, that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune had made a phone call with his Tunisian counterpart, Kais Saied.

A statement by the Presidency stated that the call dealt with strengthening bilateral relations in various fields, during which President Tebboune assured his Tunisian counterpart that Algeria stands in solidarity with Tunisia at this “delicate stage.”

The Algerian president had confirmed a few days ago, in an interview with local media, that Algeria refused to interfere in Tunisia’s internal affairs or any external pressure on it, and that Tunisians are able to overcome their crisis.
