Iraqi and regional security will be on top of the “Iraqi Neighboring Countries Conference” agenda, according to the Iraqi government spokesperson.

“One of the topics of discussion will be establishing a secure and stable Iraq in consensus with its neighbors. If Iraq’s security and stability is established, it will be to the benefit of the region’s stability.”

The exact date of the conference remains undisclosed. Although the event will take place at the end of the month.

It was previously noted that the conference aims to generate dialogue between regional actors.

Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi had tasked some of his ministers with formally extending invitation letters to a number of heads of state earlier last week. The invitees include Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, and Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, among others. French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed his participation over the phone with PM al-Kadhimi last week.

Iranian and Saudi leaders are unlikely to attend. However, participation on the ministerial level is expected. A high-level delegation will also arrive from Washington for the event.

According to unnamed sources, some state leaders might also attend.
