According to local media reports during the week, the Libyan Military Prosecutor’s Office under the Ministry of Defense sent an arrest warrant to police forces in the country. In the instructions, it was decided to arrest Saif al-Gaddafi, son of ousted leader Muammar Gaddafi, on the grounds of involvement in murders and using mercenaries, and that he be transferred to the authorities.
At the same time, according to the information received, it was stated that the Chief of Prosecutor Office sent a warrant to the relevant units to start the search for Saif al-Islam in the regions where military and police forces are active. It is highlighted that the murders committed by the Russian Wagner Group during the Tripoli invasion initiated by warlord Khalifa Haftar, the leader of the eastern militia forces in 2019, and related case files were effective in taking the decision.
It was also expressed that Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, who was captured by revolutionary groups after the February 2011 revolution, was detained by a militia group in Zintan. Speaking to the New York Times last month, Saif al-Islam stated that he will run for the December elections.
