1,2 million doses of Sinopharm vaccine were shipped from China to Libya

The biggest aid to Libya, which is struggling with the COVID-19 pandemic, came from China.

Libya received 1 million 260 thousand doses of COVID-19 vaccines from China. The vaccines were delivered from Mitiga Airport in Tripoli. Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, announced that the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine, approved by the World Health Organization (WHO), has arrived in the country.

With the latest delivery, a total of 2 million 60 thousand doses of vaccine were shipped to Libya. In addition to this, Dbeibeh stated that 500,000 more doses of vaccine will reach the country soon. Libyan Health Minister Ali Zintani also expressed that, as a result of the measures implemented throughout the country, the effect of the pandemic was reduced. He also mentioned that the rate of transmission was reduced to 24 percent. Zintani added that intensive efforts are being made to raise awareness of vaccinations and to spread vaccination efforts throughout Libya.

According to the latest data, the number of people who lost their lives in the COVID-19 pandemic in Libya was determined as 3,579. In the country, where the number of cases reached 256,328, the number of people who survived the disease is 193,144. Electricity and water cuts in the country, where the health infrastructure has weakened due to the 10-year civil war, also increased the negative effects of the pandemic.
