In a statement made by Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh’s media office, it was stated that the reopening of the coastal road between Sirte and Misrata is a very beneficial step for the Libyan people in the economic, security, and health areas. It was also stated that the journeys that the Libyan people had to make on the difficult desert roads will come to an end, and it was announced that the coastal road was reopened as of July 30.
Nonetheless, it was emphasized that the 5+5 Military Committee is responsible for ensuring the safety of the coastal road. PM Dbeibeh expressed that these positive developments will continue in areas such as political reconciliation, development and restructuring. Dbeibeh added that the Libyan people needed them in order to put the past aside and look to the future with hope.
In the statements made by the foreign ministries of countries such as Turkey and Egypt, the opening of the coastal road was appreciated.
In a statement made by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was stated that it was pleasing that the efforts of the Presidential Council, the Government of National Unity (GNU), the United Nations Libya Support Mission (UNSMIL), and the 5+5 Joint Military Commission, in this context, resulted in a positive outcome.
Similarly, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry described the opening of the coastal road as a very positive development for Libya’s national reconciliation process.
