Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is scheduled to visit Turkey on Friday in a three-day visit, following an invitation sent by his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The ties between Turkey and Palestine are expected to be conferred in all aspects during Abbas’ three-day visit, Turkey’s Communications Directorate expressed in a statement.
Amongst the subjects of discussion are conducts to boost bilateral cooperation, the humanitarian situation in Palestine, and the latest developments in the Israel-Palestine conflict.
Similarly, probable to be on the agenda are the settlement between various Palestinian groups as well as the long-anticipated elections in Palestine. The elections were scheduled for this summer but were postponed in April over a dispute in voting in Israeli-occupied East Jerusalem. The voting dispute, alongside evictions in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East Jerusalem and violence erupting at the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, was one of the factors igniting the tensions between Israel and Palestine that ultimately led to the 11-day conflict between Israel and Hamas.
At least 260 Palestinians were killed, and thousands were injured in Israeli attacks directed towards Gaza, while 13 Israelis were also killed.
