The Presidency of the Republic announced, on Wednesday, the formation of the new government, led by Prime Minister Aymen Benabderrahmane.
According to the statement of the Presidency of Algeria, the formation of the government came after the approval of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and at the suggestion of the Prime Minister, Ayman Benabderrahmane.
Appointed last week as prime minister to replace Abdelaziz Djerad, Ayman Benabderrahmane, who was finance minister in the previous government, will remain in charge of finance, while Mohamed Arkab kept his job as energy minister, the presidency said in a statement.
It was stated that Ramtane Lamamra, who assumed the same post for a while during the period of former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, was appointed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Rashid Tabbi to the Ministry of Justice.
Benabderrahmane’s team takes over the structure of the Djerad government, which contains Kamel Beldjoud as the Minister of Interior, Abderahmane Benbouzid as the Minister of Health, Youcef Belmehdi as the Minister of Religious Affairs, Lotfi Benbahmed as the pharmaceutical industry minister, Ammar Belhimer as communications minister, Abdelhakim Belaabed as the Minister of National Education, and Kamel Rezig as the commerce minister, all of which retained their posts.
The FLN came first with 98 seats or 24.07% of the 407 seats in the People’s National Assembly in the June 12 elections, while the “Independents” consolidated their rank as the second political force in parliament, winning 84 seats according to the final results, or 20.63% of the total seats in the assembly.
The winning parties in the legislative elections and the Independents bloc, except the MSP (65 seats), had announced their support for the formation of a presidential majority government, to favor the option of appointing a Prime Minister loyal to the policies of the Algerian President.
