Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, in a meeting with Libyan Health Bureau officials on Saturday, stated that the salaries of people working in the health sector should be increased.
Dbeibeh expressed that “due care should be taken for health workers who have made serious sacrifices during the last 10 years of civil war environment and cannot receive their salaries.” In addition, Prime Minister Dbeibeh emphasized the importance of unifying institutions at the point of providing basic health services.
Dbeibeh stated that their efforts are continuing to integrate private medical centers and public hospitals located in the same region. Mentioning that a strong and organized private sector in different fields, especially the health sector, will play an important role in the development of the country, the Prime Minister underlined that private clinics can help public hospitals in urgent situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dbeibeh expressed that, with the health sector reaching the targeted level, the need for health services can be met within the country’s own means, not by giving millions of dollars abroad. He also expressed his gratitude to Libyan healthcare workers for their efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic despite inadequate equipment and conditions.
As one of the countries hit by the COVID-19 epidemic, the number of daily cases and deaths in Libya decreased since March 2021. This was perceived as a positive signal in Libya, where a poor health sector is seen, caused by years of civil war.
