It was reported that the Qatari Red Crescent Society’s (QRCS) office in Gaza was targeted by Israeli airstrikes. The QRCS reported the incident through a Twitter post, indicating: “The Qatari Red Crescent was severely damaged this afternoon due to the shelling of a commercial building where it is located.” According to the statement, the attack left 2 people, including a child, dead and 10 people injured.
The QRCS also denounced the latest attack, which was carried by what the organization defined as “the Israeli occupation forces.”
The QRCS Secretary-General Ali bin Hassan Al Hammadi defined the Israeli attack as a clear violation of the Geneva Convention, of which Israel is a signatory.
The organization also highlighted the importance of humanitarian groups maintaining their works according to international humanitarian law.
The Qatari Foreign Ministry issued a statement condemning the Israeli attack. The statement added that the attacks targeting humanitarian and media institutions are a flagrant violation of international law. Last Saturday, a building hosting international media institutions, including Al Jazeera and AFP, in Gaza City, was demolished by an Israeli airstrike.
Working to provide the Palestinians’ needs in Gaza amid Israeli attacks, the QRCS announced that it would maintain its operations despite the obstacles. Last Sunday, the institution announced that it would allocate $1 million to support Palestinian families affected by the Israeli attacks.
According to the latest reports, the death toll has reached 200, including 59 children, and more than 1300 people have been wounded due to Israeli violence, in the last week.
