The official Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) sent a cargo plane carrying 46 tonnes of food to Egypt. The move came as part of the Emirates’ humanitarian initiatives carried during the Holy month of Ramadan.

The UAE Ambassador to Egypt, Hamad Saeed Al Shamsi, made statements on the move, saying, “The food supplies sent by the UAE to brotherly Egypt are part of the provision of humanitarian supplies in Egypt this holy month.” The food supplies will support families in need in the country, Al Shamsi said.

Ambassador Al Shamsi also highlighted the two countries’ historical ties as well as cooperation in several fields. The leadership of the two countries are looking forward to improving and strengthening these relations in light of common interest, Al Shamsi added.

The UAE’s Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, launched a campaign on April 11. Within the scope of this campaign, 100 million meals will be distributed to support needy families in 30 countries during Ramadan. In this framework, Sudan and Mauritania were provided 50 tonnes and 49 tonnes of aid, respectively, in the last weeks.
