On Sunday, the South Korean Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun arrived in Tehran to discuss ways of improving bilateral relations and some other issues. The Prime Minister was welcomed by the Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami.
The South Korean Prime Minister’s visit is expected to last for three days. During the visit, Chung Sye-kyun will hold separate meetings with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, First Vice-President Eshaq Janangiri, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, and the advisor to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamanei, Ali Larijani.
The unfreezing of Iran’s 7 billion dollars assets in South Korea is expected to be at the top of the agenda. Last week, Iranian authorities released a South Korean cargo vessel and its captain in exchange for the help of South Korea to release the frozen assets in the country.
Chung Sye-kyun will also meet the officials from the South Korean companies operating in Iran, including Samsung, LG Electronics Inc., and SK Networks Co.
The Prime Minister’s visit has been the first of its kind in the last 44 years. It was announced by the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh last week without specifying a date.
