On Saturday, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein called for a verdict on a mechanism for negotiation amid significant engagement of states in Syria to attain peace in the war-torn country.
This originated in a press conference where Hussein met with the Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Gheit in Baghdad, who traveled to the Iraqi capital earlier in the day.
The topmost Iraqi envoy held his discussions with Abul Gheit on Arab relations with bordering countries, including Turkey and Iran.
“Discussions also touched on issues related to the work of the Arab League and on the situation in Syria,” Hussein said.
The Iraqi Foreign Minister announced that unpredictability in Syria has a negative impact on the state in Iraq.
“It is essential to work in finding a mechanism for negotiations with diverse countries that have an impact in Syria,” Hussein said, without elaborating further.
Syria has been entangled in a long-enduring civil war since early 2011 when the Bashar al-Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests with unforeseen ferocity.
