On Tuesday, an Iranian official admitted that 10 officials had a role in the Ukrainian passenger plane crash, which happened in January 2020. The statement came from outgoing military prosecutor Gholam Abbas Torki during a ceremony to hand the post to his successor Nasir Siraj, as Iran’s new military prosecutor.

Torki said that “The indictment of the case of the Ukrainian plane was also issued and a serious and accurate investigation was carried out, and indictments were issued for 10 people who were at fault.” Any details regarding the identities of the officials have not been provided. Torki also stated that the indictment would be filed to the court soon, without giving any timeline.

Besides, the head of the Iranian Armed Forces’ judicial organization, Shokrollah Bahrami, said that the military court had finished its job over the case and it will be heard in court in the new year, meaning the Iranian new year that began on March 21.

On January 11, three days after the January 8 incident, Iran had admitted that a “human error” was responsible for downing the plane belonging to Ukrainian International Airlines, which caused the death of 176 passengers. Last December, the country accepted to pay compensation, amounting to $150,000, to the families of each of the plane crash victims.
