On Monday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh stated that Iran gave support for trilateral meetings held in Doha between Qatar, Turkey, and Russia on the Syrian crisis last week. Khatibzadeh reiterated his country’s support towards the moves which would contribute to resolving the Syrian conflict. Iran welcomes any attempt which would relieve the Syrian people’s pain and provide stability and peace in the country, he added.

Recalling the Astana talks conducted between Turkey, Russia, and Iran, Khatibzadeh said that this initiative was one of the most fruitful attempts to bring an end to the more than decade-long war in Syria.

Last week, the foreign ministers of Qatar, Turkey, and Russia gathered in the Qatari capital. After negotiations, they issued a joint statement echoing support for Syria’s territorial integrity in line with the UN Charter.
