The Iraqi government announced that a military checkpoint in the province of Diyala in the country’s east was attacked by Daesh/ISIS, resulting in the deaths of five Iraqi soldiers and the injuries of three more.

According to a statement released by the government’s media network, the assault took place in the village of Qara Tapa.

In accordance with the statement, the conflict between the terrorists and the Iraqi soldiers stationed at the checkpoint lasted for almost thirty minutes.

There were no reports of any injuries among the terrorists affiliated with Daesh or ISIS.

The Iraqi military immediately began searching for the individuals responsible for the attack.

In 2014, Daesh/ISIS overran areas of the Iraqi provinces of Mosul, Salahuddin, and Anbar, in addition to portions of the provinces of Diyala and Kirkuk. These regions were gradually freed over the course of the following years.

On December 9, 2017, the government of Iraq declared victory over Daesh/ISIS. Nonetheless, the group continues to undertake occasional attacks in the rural sections of these provinces even after the triumph.
