On Wednesday, the first commercial flight from Yemen’s war-torn Sanaa to Egypt’s capital Cairo lifted off for the first time in over six years.
A source at Sanaa Airport told that an aircraft carrying 78 passengers had left for Cairo.
Yemen’s warring factions agreed to a UN-brokered two-month cease-fire in April, during which all military operations were suspended.
Commercial flights were allowed to operate from the rebel-held Sanaa Airport in Yemen’s capital as part of the cease-fire agreement.
The Saudi-led coalition has been closing the airport since 2016, claiming that the Houthis were using its facilities for military objectives, which the rebels deny.
Yemen has been engulfed by violence and instability since 2014, when Iranian-aligned Houthi rebels captured much of the country, including Sanaa.
The Saudi-led coalition entered the war in early 2015 to restore the Yemeni government to power.
The eight-year conflict has created one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world, with millions suffering from hunger.
