Lebanon’s parliament re-elects Nabih Berri as parliamentary speaker

Nabih Berri was re-elected for the seventh time as Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament.

On Tuesday, politician Nabih Berri was re-elected for the seventh time as Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament.

The 84-year-old leader of the Amal Movement was the only candidate for the position.

His re-election received 65 votes in the 128-seat Parliament, compared to 23 votes in the previous election.

Representatives from Hezbollah, the Amal Movement, the Progressive Socialist Party, led by Walid Jumblatt, and other independent members allied to the March 8 alliance backed Berri’s re-election.
